Based on in-depth interviews, with considerable historical research and many photographs, it covers aspects of school life including teaching methods and daily life, misbehaviour and corporal punishment, perceptions of school and the critical 11-plus exam and its effects on individuals and families. Foreword by Dame Janet Baker, highly acclaimed opera singer and formerly Chancellor of York University, who attended York College for Girls which is featured in the book. The book will appeal to anybody interested in York’s history, education and oral history in general.
